The structure of the motor has two poles. It consists of a stator and a rotor. The rotor is of the cage type, and the stator includes the main poles, also known as protruding poles. These main poles are equipped with power supply winding that form the primary winding of the motor. The poles are divided into two unequal parts. The smaller part contains copper strips, also known as shielding coils. This shielding coil is located on the smaller part of the pole and is called the shielding pole. It plays a crucial role in the operation of the motor.

 

Q motors operating with alternating current voltage are usually used in low-power applications. They are typically designed for single-phase alternating current power supply and are most suitable for continuous operation with low starting torque. The main features include:

Voltage range: They usually operate at standard alternating current voltages, such as 120V or 240V, making them compatible with a wide range of applications.

Applications: They are used in small fans, blowers, range hoods, and other ventilation systems that require low power and continuous operation.

 

The Q motor starting torque generated is equivalent to half of the full-load torque.

Due to the power loss in the shading coil, the efficiency is relatively low.

Depending on the position of the shading coil, the rotation direction is different.
